Our specialist ground stabilisation business Soil Science Ltd has pioneered Sureground™, a low carbon, zero waste and easily reversible soil treatment system for temporary construction works such as compounds, access roads, piling mats and crane pads.
Sureground™ reduces the need for contractors to move large volumes of materials off and onto site during temporary enabling works. As a result it has up to 70% lower carbon impact, results in zero waste and can slash works programme times by as much as half. Because it is easily reversible, and involves minimal vehicle movements, Sureground™ is ideal for infrastructure works such as power, water, rail and data networks that need to go across farmland and nature-sensitive landscapes.

GRS runs a number of rail businesses dedicated to the transportation and handling of bulk materials to feed our own business as sustainably as possible as well as supplying major construction projects:
- GRS Rail Services operates a network of rail terminals across the midlands and south east for the offloading and onward distribution of high volumes of construction aggregates.
- Rail Stone Solutions offers major infrastructure contractors an end-to-end supply chain solution for moving massive volumes of bulk materials including aggregates and waste.
- RFS Works is a joint venture providing comprehensive services for off-loading, loading and transfer of bulk materials at rail depots, ports and other facilities nationwide.
GRS provides marine handling services on the Thames, moving bulk materials and spoil throughout the capital as part of an integrated freight operation. We run a large fleet that gives us huge versatility and is often used to support major civil engineering schemes requiring shallow draft, coastal and sea-going tugs to provide towage for barge transportation. All our vessels have PLA (Port of London Authority) licences for operation on the River Thames.
Each day we move up to 10,000 Tonnes of bulk cargo by river – equivalent to more than 400 lorries on the road. Of course, not every part of London has direct access to the Thames but by combining our river, road and rail logistics, we are able to maximise the amount of material we transport via the river. GRS has unrivalled access to many other berths and buoys along the Thames and can also supply material handlers and operators on all foreshore sites.
